The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has highlighted the contrast between the economic record of former President John Mahama and the accomplishments of the current NPP government.
Speaking at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on August 25, Dr. Bawumia reiterated that the difference between the two is “night and day.”
“The state of the economy in 2016, when we took office, was dire,” Dr. Bawumia recalled. “High unemployment, a collapsed National Health Service, and a banking sector on the verge of collapse. But we have worked hard to reverse this trend.”
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the NPP’s achievements, including the creation of 2.1 million jobs, the expansion of rural telephony, and the construction of roads, railways, and public libraries. “We have created a favorable business environment, and the results are evident,” he said.
The Vice President also stressed the government’s efforts to improve access to healthcare, sanitation, and education. “We have extended the national health insurance program to cover sickle cell patients and childhood cancer, and saved the deposits of 4.6 million bank customers,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia’s engagement with the press comes as the election season intensifies, with former President Mahama criticizing the NPP’s economic management. However, Dr. Bawumia’s response serves as a refutation, emphasizing the NPP’s achievements and contrasting them with Mahama’s record.
“The difference between what we inherited and what we have achieved is indeed ‘night and day’,” Dr. Bawumia emphasized. “We will continue to work hard to build on our successes and create a better future for all Ghanaians.”
