A pioneering Ghanaian Technology entrepreneur, Herman Chinery-Hesse has been reported dead.
The founder of theSOFTtribe reportedly succumbed to death’s icy hands in the late hours of Monday, September 17, 2024, after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 61.
Born in 1963 in Dublin, Ireland, Chinery-Hesse often referred to as “the Bill Gates of Africa,” left behind a legacy as one of Africa’s most influential figures in technology.
He founded the SOFTtribe in 1991, which has grown to become the oldest and largest software company in Ghana.
Under his leadership, theSOFTtribe introduced groundbreaking solutions, including mobile-based community security systems, government payroll software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and national utility billing platforms. He’s also credited with helping to advance Ghana’s technological infrastructure.
He was named one of the “20 Notable Black Innovators in Technology”, one of Africa’s “Top 20 Tech Influencers”, among the 2Top 100 Most Influential Africans of our Time”, and one of the “Top 100 Global Thinkers” by Foreign Policy Magazine.
He was survived by his two (2) children.
