The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that two suspects involved in the Democracy Hub demonstration are receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.
This update follows the arrest of multiple participants in the Democracy Hub protest, which aimed to draw attention to governance issues. Authorities have emphasized that the health and well-being of the suspects remain a priority, and they are being closely monitored while in police custody.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, authorities disclosed that both Fanny Otoo and Oliver Barker-Vormawor were transported to the hospital after experiencing health problems while in custody.
According to the statement, Fanny Otoo complained of feeling unwell on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, as he and other suspects were awaiting court proceedings. “The Police immediately sent him to the Police Hospital in Accra, where doctors attended to him and later admitted him for further treatment,” the statement read.
Likewise, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who is also a suspect in the case, was transferred to the hospital for medical evaluation after falling ill late Tuesday night. Hospital staff examined him and subsequently admitted him for further care. The police reassured the public, stating, “At no point in time have the Police denied these suspects any medical attention.”
