The National Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha has asserted that the New Patriotic Party and the Republican Party in the U.S. share much in common.
The New Patriotic Party has congratulated the Republican Party and President-Elect Donald Trump on their victory in the 2024 U.S. elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP expressed its excitement over the election results, which it regards as an endorsement of the Republican Party’s vision and ideals by the American electorates.
The statement further highlighted the longstanding relationship between the NPP and the Republican Party, built on shared values and symbols, particularly the iconic elephant.
In an interview on Starr Today with Efia Tutuwaa Danso, Mustapha highlighted the similarities between the two parties. Mustapha explained that both parties’ similarities go beyond sharing the iconic elephant symbol, they also share a commitment to conservatism. He also added that both parties belong to the International Democracy Union (IDU), an organization that promotes conservative values.
“The New Patriotic Party shares a lot in common with the Republican Party. Not just the elephant, if you understand our tradition, we are a center-right party and we term it as a conservatism. So we are conservatives just like the Republicans and to even make it more interesting, we have an association of all center-right parties. We call the IDU and both parties are part of IDU. So recently I held a forum for young leaders across the world who are center-right parties, the youth wing of center-right parties globally. I hosted that conference here in Ghana and the Republican Party was duly represented,” he remarked.
Mr. Mustapha further disclosed that he has been a loyal supporter of the Republican Party since the 2000 elections, when George W. Bush won the presidency, and has consistently supported Republican candidates ever since.
