Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso, Kwabena Minta-Akandor, has accused the government of deliberately sabotaging National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs by withholding developmental projects in their constituencies.
He made these remarks during a community engagement in Juaboso, as part of a visit by the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Minta-Akandor lamented the lack of central government support for development initiatives in Juaboso, highlighting his personal efforts to bridge the gap.
“If your party is in opposition, you may have challenges, but I have never abandoned the people of the Juaboso constituency,” he stated. “Using my small common fund and even my personal money, I have continued to support the community. Tasks that the district assembly should handle, I, Kwabena Minta-Akandor, have taken upon myself.”
He highlighted key achievements despite limited resources.
“Over the past eight years, I have built nine CHPS [Community-based Health Planning and Services] compounds, while the current central government has not even built two. Visit the Juaboso Robotic and IT Centre, and you’ll see it there. There are CHPS compounds in places like Antobia, Adeikro, Hwemeha, and several other communities.”
The MP expressed optimism about the future under an NDC-led government, promising even greater development if John Dramani Mahama wins the 2024 presidential election.
“I have achieved all these while in opposition. If, by God’s grace, John Dramani Mahama becomes president again, Juaboso will experience even greater prosperity.”
The visit by Mr. Mahama formed part of his nationwide tour to galvanize support for his campaign ahead of the upcoming elections. Addressing supporters, the former president pledged to prioritize equitable development and strengthen local governance structures if elected.
The allegations by Mr. Minta-Akandor add to ongoing criticisms from the opposition NDC about the government’s handling of resources and development across constituencies.
