Gender Advocate lauds NDC for gender inclusivity

Gender Advocate, Esther Tawiah has lauded the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) commitment in advancing gender equality and inclusivity in governance.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Tawiah highlighted the importance of having women in positions of power, particularly in ensuring gender is considered in all decision-making processes.

“So far, it has been impressive. It hasn’t always been the law, but it’s about commitment and political will,” Tawiah said, commending the NDC’s efforts to push for gender inclusivity.

She added that the party’s new administration has demonstrated a clear commitment to integrating gender issues into governance, making it an ongoing priority.

The Gender advocate further emphasized the value of having women in governance roles, noting that when women are part of the conversation, they bring a unique perspective. “The beauty of having a woman as a part of governance is that she is part of every conversation and she sees from the gender lens,” she explained.

She expressed strong support for Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s potential as vice president, stating that her presence in the executive would allow her to use her influence to ensure gender is a priority across all ministries. “Having Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as a vice president will help her use her executive power to liaise with the ministers to incorporate gender in everything they do,” Tawiah said.

Esther Tawiah also urged that the momentum continue beyond the current administration. “We believe we must keep the momentum so that the next administration has a woman as a vice president in order to ensure holistic development and a national coalition where everyone’s voice is important and heard,” she added.
