Prudential Bank as part of activities commemorating this year’s National Chocolate Day, showed love and care to the children at the 37 Military Hospital – Paediatric Department by donating GH¢20,000 to support the payment of medical bills for over 30 children at the facility.

The bank’s delegation from the Marketing and Corporate Affairs Department, led by the Head of Public Relations, Bennet Frimpong also took the opportunity to present chocolates to the children to celebrate the National Chocolate Day and piggy banks to encourage savings among them.

Making the presentation to the Hospital, Brand Manager at Prudential Bank, Jamilla Disu said that the Bank is passionate about giving back to society and it is instructive that as February marks the month of love it is welcoming to show same to children across the country

“It is the month of love and at Prudential Bank, we visit communities to celebrate the National Chocolate Day with them. This year the lot has fallen on 37 Military Hospital’s Paediatric Department and as our closest neighbours we are here to present a token to these beautiful children in your wards and pay for those who cannot afford their medical bills at this time. It is our belief that this gesture will go a long way to impact the lives of these children,” she said.

Acting Head of the Paediatric Department, Dr. Sheila Asamoah Okyere who received the items and cheque on behalf of the hospital expressed the facility’s gratitude for the donation urging more support for the department in future.

“We are elated today for your benevolence. It is really a surprise to us, and we will make sure every child receives a gift. Also be assured that the funds will be used for the intended purpose for which it has been made. It is our plea that you make 37 Military Hospital a constant destination for these donations annually,” she said.

The National Chocolate Day was instituted in 2007 by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in 2007 to promote the consumption of chocolate and cocoa-based products. It also coincides with the annual celebration of St Valentine’s Day on February 14 and the Ministry considers the Cocoa Day a responsible way of commemorating the occasion.

The Bank has over the years joined in the celebration partnering with the Ghana COCOBOD at one point. This year a total of 7000 bars of chocolates procured from the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) were distributed to PBL staff, customers and stakeholders across regions and towns in Ghana where the bank has presence.
