Police in Walewale have arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing a pistol and ammunition belonging to an immigration officer.

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Mohammed Basit and 22-year-old Baba Rasid, reportedly entered the officer’s room around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, while he was away, and made away with his firearm and ammunition.

Items stolen included a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, along with two CZ rifle magazines each loaded with 30 rounds.

According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabik Anmain of the North East Regional Police Public Relations Unit, the suspects were arrested through intelligence-led operations in Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale. The stolen weapon and ammunition were discovered hidden in a stationary vehicle.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned in court.
