The Agbaaa Management Team officially presented the WBO Africa title clinched by their boxer, Faisal Abukari to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, on Wednesday.
Abukari currently ranks 16th in the WBO global standings and holds the honour of being Ghana’s leading professional boxer.
During the engagement, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams praised the Agbaaa Team for their dedication and reaffirmed Ghana’s proud boxing heritage. He highlighted the construction of the Bukom Boxing Arena—West Africa’s first purpose-built boxing facility—under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama as a testament to the country’s commitment to the sport.
The Minister also expressed pride in Ghana’s continued presence in global rankings, attributing this achievement to the discipline and determination of Faisal Abukari and his management team.
Kofi Adams, however, encouraged promoters and coaches to offer proper guidance to their fighters and cautioned against the practice of staging ‘arranged fights’ solely to boost records for monetary benefit.
He stressed that true and lasting success in boxing is built on a foundation of disciplined training, quality coaching, and ethical promotion. He further assured that the government is committed to partnering with credible stakeholders to establish a sustainable and inclusive boxing ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Hon. Adams urged all stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, emphasizing the need to restore boxing as a source of national pride and a powerful avenue for young athletes to gain international acclaim.
