Ghanaian international footballer Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court to face multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.
The 32-year-old is facing five counts of rape involving two women and an additional count of sexual assault related to a third woman.
The alleged incidents are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, during his tenure at English Premier League club Arsenal.
As part of his bail conditions, Partey is barred from contacting any of the three complainants. He is also required to inform police of any change to his permanent address or intentions to travel outside the UK.
His court appearance follows shortly after his departure from Arsenal, with his contract having expired at the end of June.
Partey joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 in a £45 million transfer and spent four seasons at the Emirates Stadium.
The charges come after a police investigation launched in February 2022, when the first complaint was received.
Authorities have since spent over three years conducting inquiries before filing formal charges.
