The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Monday, September 22, 2025, will be observed as a statutory public holiday nationwide in commemoration of Founder’s Day.
Originally scheduled for Sunday, September 21, the holiday has been moved to the following Monday to align with the weekend, following an Executive Instrument issued by President John Mahama.
This declaration is in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who signed the announcement, urged all Ghanaians to observe the day across the country.
The Ministry’s statement read, “Sunday, 21st September 2025, marks Founder’s Day, which is a Statutory Public Holiday. However, in view of the fact that 21st September 2025 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has, by Executive Instrument, declared Monday, 22nd September 2025, as an additional public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
