The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation into the fatal shooting of two Immigration Officers in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, near Nagani-Basyonde.

According to a police statement, the officers were ambushed by unidentified gunmen while returning to base after a routine foot patrol. The attackers opened fire, critically injuring both officers and making away with two AK-47 rifles belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service.

The victims were rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where one officer was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other remains in critical condition and is receiving medical care.

Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has since deployed a team of investigators and intelligence operatives to the area to support the ongoing investigation and track down the perpetrators.

The Upper East Regional Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila, assured the public that the matter is being handled with urgency.

“The Command wishes to assure the general public that a thorough investigation is currently underway to unravel the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.

Police have appealed to residents of Tempane, Garu, and surrounding communities to remain calm and assist by volunteering credible information to aid the investigation.

In a related development, a joint security task force led by the Ghana Armed Forces has conducted a cordon and search operation in parts of Tempane and Garu, leading to the arrest of several suspects in Basyonde and Garu.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public safety and pledged to “leave no stone unturned” in ensuring justice for the slain officer.
