Ken Agyapong’s Campaign team denies claims of tribal remarks, calls for fair reporting.

The campaign team of Presidential hopeful, Ken Ohene Agyapong, has strongly refuted a JoyNews publication claiming he made tribal comments urging Akans to reject minorities. The team says the report is false, misleading and inconsistent with both the facts and Mr. Agyapong’s long-standing public record.

In a strongly-worded statement, the Ken Agyapong’s Campaign team described the JoyNews headline as “deceptive, inflammatory, and completely baseless.”

The campaign clarified that Hon. Ken Agyapong’s remarks were not tribal, but rather a direct response to what they describe as “unprecedented levels of tribal intimidation” faced by his team and supporters in parts of the North ahead of the party’s primaries.

According to the statement, some chiefs and influential individuals have allegedly pressured delegates to vote along tribal lines, while certain Members of Parliament from the North have also resorted to ethnic appeals in their campaigns.

The team further alleged that several Agyapong supporters have faced threats, banishment, and even physical harm for openly supporting his bid.
They argue that calling out such acts of intimidation should not be mistaken for tribal politics.

“Hon. Ken Agyapong has a duty to speak up. Highlighting tribal intimidation cannot be misconstrued as engaging in tribalism,”
the statement emphasised.

The campaign stressed its commitment to an issues-based contest founded on unity, mutual respect and fairness adding that it will continue to resist attempts to divide the party along ethnic lines.

It also accused some political actors of exploiting tribal sentiments in the North while “portraying themselves as victims in the South.”

Defending Mr. Agyapong’s record, the team pointed out that over the past three decades, he has created jobs, supported communities, and employed Ghanaians from all ethnic backgrounds.
The campaign concluded by calling on JoyNews to uphold the highest standards of accuracy and fairness, warning that sensational and misleading reportage only serves to undermine truth and national unity.

The Ken Agyapong Campaign says it remains focused on promoting party unity and ensuring a fair and transparent internal election process.
