President John Dramani Mahama has emphasised on the need for justice in Ghana to be not only fair, but also accessible, timely, and affordable for all citizens.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Chief Justice at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, November 17, 2025, President Mahama highlighted challenges that prevent ordinary Ghanaians from fully benefiting from the judicial system.
“Justice must not only be fair, it must also be accessible, timely, and affordable. Too many of our fellow citizens still experience justice as something that is distant, slow, and financially burdensome. Court adjournments, delays in delivering judgments, and complex procedures can turn our courtrooms into places of frustration rather than hope,” he said.

The President urged the Chief Justice to collaborate with the Judicial Council and the Bar to reduce case backlogs, expand and modernise court infrastructure, and leverage technology, including e-filing and virtual hearings, to improve efficiency.

He also emphasised the importance of simplifying procedures for small claims, family matters, juvenile, and labour cases to ensure that ordinary citizens are not excluded from justice due to technicalities.
President Mahama assured the judiciary of his administration’s support, pledging adequate resources to equip courts and promote reforms that make justice more efficient and citizen-friendly.
