The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian fugitive, Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, who is suspected to have abducted and murdered a woman and her daughter in Nigeria before escaping to Ghana to evade arrest.
The suspect was picked up at Akyem Wenchi, near Akwatia, after police intelligence indicated that he had fled to Ghana and was being sheltered by friends in the community.
His arrest follows the circulation of a viral video in Nigeria alleging that he had abducted and killed a female officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and her daughter at Abeokuta, Ogu State. He reportedly transported the victims to Osun state, before tragically killing them.
Addressing the media at a brief press conference on Sunday in Kibi, the Eastern South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ohene Boadi Bossman, said the command swiftly launched an intelligence-led operation upon receiving information about the suspect’s hideout.
He noted that the suspect had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Police and had crossed into Ghana in an attempt to escape arrest.
“The Eastern South Regional Police Command on receipt of the information that, the suspect was hiding in his friend’s house at Akwatia quickly deployed an intelligence-led operations to arrest the suspect in his hide out at Akyem Wenchi”.
Victor Benjamin is currently in police custody as arrangements are being made to hand him to Police Headquarters in Accra before transferred to Nigerian authorities to face justice.
DCOP Boadi Bossman urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals or activities to law enforcement agencies to help curb crime in their communities.
He acknowledged that some foreigners have illegally migrated to some communities under the Police Command due to mining activities, however assured that through the Police Intelligence Department (PID), they are under serious surveillance .
He assured that the police will continue to mount sustained operations to deal with criminal activities within the jurisdiction.
