The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that former New Force spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiusi, has no criminal record in Ghana, according to an official criminal check issued on October 8, 2025.
The document, valid for six months, states that Abbiusi’s name “does not appear in the criminal records of the Ghana Police Service,” offering formal clarity following years of public debate over the circumstances surrounding her 2023 arrest and deportation.
The clearance comes after a prolonged controversy that began nearly two years ago when Abbiusi was detained over an alleged false declaration regarding her immigration status. Although the charge was later withdrawn by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), she was rearrested and deported on December 19, 2023, a move the ECOWAS Court later ruled unlawful.

In its judgment, the ECOWAS Court determined that her arrest, rearrest and deportation violated Article 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, as the case against her had been officially dropped. The court ordered the Government of Ghana to compensate her with USD $10,000 for the breach of her rights.
Abbiusi has since been present in Ghana, making several public appearances in 2025, including at the Mining in Motion event on June 2 and the funeral of the Mamponghene on June 7. Her recent activities resurfaced public interest in her case, but the latest CID confirmation now provides an authoritative update on her legal standing.
The new criminal check, issued by the CID’s Director of Administration and endorsed by the Director General of the CID, formally affirms that she has no criminal history in Ghana, adding another layer of official clarity to a case that has drawn sustained public attention since 2023.
