The Circuit Court in Accra has adjourned to January 22, 2026, the case involving the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, regarding his role in the Ahafo Hwediem incident.

On Monday, December 1, 2025, ASP Emmanuel Nyamekye, who was holding the substantive prosecutor’s brief, said his instructions were for a request for a month’s adjournment.

“Our brief is that the substantive prosecutor, who is our director (Alex Odonkor), has not completed the preparation of the witness statements and prays to the court for an extension of the period.

“We humbly pray for a one-month period to conclude or finish our investigations and also to prepare our witness statements,” the prosecutor told the court.

Kwasi Gyamfi Boadi, Counsel for the accused who was making his first appearance after being admitted to bail in the sum of GH₵150,000, said should the prosecution fail to complete their processes by the next adjourned date, his client should be discharged.

“We would like to pray that if by the next court date, prosecution is not ready to prosecute, this honorable court, with respect, should discharge the first accused,” counsel prayed.

The court, presided over by Her Honour Bisilia Adjei-Tawiah, said prior to adjourning the case, counsel could make a formal application to that effect.

He is alleged to have played a role in which an angry mob mobilized, vandalized, and assaulted military officers from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

The provisional charges he faces, together with others, are conspiracy to assault a public officer, assault on a public officer, conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage, and rioting with weapons.

The case has been adjourned to January 22, 2026.

In his first appearance on November 4, he was granted bail in the sum of GH₵150,000 by the Circuit Court in Accra, despite his plea not being taken.

Additionally, the court directed that the accused person is not to leave the jurisdiction of the Greater Accra Region to any part of the country without prior notice to the investigator.

He has also been ordered to report to the case investigators once every two weeks until this order is reversed or trial commences.

The court cautioned the accused to desist from any behavior likely to frustrate the investigation. Other accused persons, including Zakaria Yakubu, one Alex, and others, are at large.

EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, reports that the Asutifi North MP was accompanied in court by seven other MPs.
