Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has strongly represented both Ghana and the African continent at the 2025 World Conference on Doping in Sport, held in Busan, South Korea, from December 1-5, 2025.

The global summit, organised by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Korean Anti-Doping Agency (KADA), and the Busan Metropolitan Government, convenes once every six years and brings together more than 1,500 participants from over 190 countries to shape the future of anti-doping policies.

As a Foundation Board Member of WADA, Hon. Adams delivered a major intervention during the Foundation Board meeting, speaking on behalf of the Africa Region. He reaffirmed the continent’s strong support for WADA’s strategy to attract private sector partnerships and diversify funding. He highlighted Africa’s experience with the SuperSport partnership, describing it as a model of impactful collaboration.

“Africa owes SuperSport genuine gratitude. Their support brought real anti-doping programmes to our region. But we must now build on that momentum, attract new partners, and mobilise donors who share our values,” he stated.

Beyond the main plenary sessions, Hon. Adams joined a high-level African caucus led by the AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, H.E. Amb. Amma Twum-Amoah. The meeting brought together African Sports Ministers, legal experts, and AU Sports Council officials to discuss strengthening homegrown anti-doping structures across the continent.

Ghana received notable recognition at the conference for its swift progress in passing a national Anti-Doping Law and taking concrete steps to establish a fully fledged national anti-doping agency. WADA officials praised Ghana’s proactive leadership and encouraged continued efforts toward athlete-focused and evidence-based reforms.

Hon. Adams also pledged Africa’s commitment to supporting WADA’s efforts in identifying new global partners aligned with its clean sport mission.

The conference, attended by key international figures including the IOC President and WADA leadership, concluded with the unanimous adoption of the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code, also known as the Busan Declaration, expected to guide global sports regulation in the years ahead.

Ghana remains committed to advancing clean sport through strong legislation, education, and international collaboration.
