The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its surrounding communities in the North East Region following incidents of civil unrest.
The deployment comes after some youth set ablaze two houses in the regional capital and threatened to burn additional properties and harm residents.
The police said the move is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and enforcing the curfew recently imposed by the government.
The Ministry of the Interior has placed Nalerigu and its environs under a curfew effective Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am. Residents have been urged to exercise restraint and adopt non-violent approaches to resolve local challenges.
According to the police, the reinforcement teams will also assist the North East Regional Police Command in enhancing security along highways to ensure the safety of commuters.
Investigations into the attacks are ongoing, and those responsible will be arrested and brought to justice, the police assured.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Robert Anabiik Anmain, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the North East Region, emphasized that the police are committed to maintaining law and order and safeguarding the community.
