North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has enrolled an additional 50 tertiary students onto his scholarship scheme, pushing the total number of beneficiaries to over 1,000 since the programme began six years ago.

The latest beneficiaries were presented with cash support to cover their academic fees during a Christmas event held at Juapong, which also featured a festival of activities for more than 6,000 children in the constituency.

Addressing the students, Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed his commitment to supporting beneficiaries through to graduation.

“We are continuing with the pledge that I made to you that once you get on the scholarship scheme we will support you until you graduate,” he said.

He congratulated first-time beneficiaries on their admissions and advised them to use any fee refunds received under the Mahama no-fees programme to meet other academic needs.

“So when you get your refund, I hope you use that refund to support your other obligations, particularly in terms of your hostels and your books,” he noted.

According to the MP, the North Tongu Scholarship Scheme has become a major pillar of educational support in the constituency.

“So far, as Member of Parliament, I have issued more than 1,000 scholarships… This year, this is about the 10th round of scholarships that we are issuing,” he stated.

He announced that another round of scholarships will be rolled out early next year, stressing that education remains his top priority.

One of the beneficiaries under the scheme is expected to receive full sponsorship to study aeronautical engineering in the United States in 2026.
