The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has begun formal processes to expel former Environment Minister, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, following comments the party says are damaging and inconsistent with its values.
This was announced in a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
According to the party, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, made remarks in which he described the NPP as a “fake party” and suggested that he no longer considers himself a member.
The statement added that during the interview, the former minister also alleged that the NPP’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
However, the NPP has strongly rejected the claims, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated.
According to the party, the 2023 primary was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner and was widely accepted by all candidates who participated, as well as by party delegates and members.
The NPP said Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s comments are “highly reprehensible” and undermine the unity and integrity of the party. As a result, it has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to begin the process of expelling him, in line with due process.
Prof. Frimpong Boateng, who once served as Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, used the interview to criticise the current state of the party, arguing that it no longer reflects the principles and values of the NPP he once knew.
