Kwesi Botchway Jnr., political aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has raised concerns about what NPP delegates perceive as an “unholy romance” between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Team Kennedy Agyapong.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, January 19, Botchway said, “NPP delegates have observed an ‘unholy romance’ between NDC and Team Kennedy Agyapong, they find it worrying.”
He added that some party members have expressed concern that the government and its supporters may be indirectly influencing internal party elections.
“It seems the government of the day is supporting, or the government of the day and their acolytes are supporting some candidates in this election, which for me is quite worrying and quite unfortunate because this is an internal election,” he said.
Botchway emphasized that delegates want a candidate who is uncompromised by government influence and capable of leading the party to victory in the 2028 elections.
The NPP is set to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, with delegates across the country preparing to elect the party’s flagbearer.
Other notable aspirants in the race include former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
