A NAIMOS task force officer was shot in the thigh during a routine anti-galamsey operation on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in the Subinkurom-Kyeremasu area of the Dormaa Central Municipality, Bono Region.
According to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in a statement, the armed individuals hiding in the bush opened fire on the team, prompting an exchange of gunfire.
One NAIMOS officer was injured and rushed to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro, where he is responding to treatment.
One of the assailants, identified as Abuu Ibrahim, was shot during the exchange and pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
NAIMOS reiterated its commitment to tackling illegal mining despite persistent threats.
In the statement, the Secretariat said, “Despite the persistent attacks and disruptions, we remain committed to fighting the scourge of illegal mining and urge all stakeholders to continue with support for our operations.”
