Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has continued his commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, delivering decisive wins over his rivals, including Dr. Bryan Acheampong, in the Eastern Region – Acheampong’s home turf.
The former Vice President secured commanding wins across multiple constituencies, consolidating his lead in the race for the party’s 2028 flagbearer position.
Key results from the Eastern Region show:
- Okere: Bawumia 162, Bryan 169, Ken 164
- Nsawam-Adoagyiri: Bawumia 707, Bryan 89, Ken 147, Adutwum 2, Kwabena 1 (Total votes cast: 946)
- Abuakwa South: Bawumia 457, Bryan 76, Ken 35, Rejected 2 (Voters 623, Cast 570)
- Fanteakwa South: Bawumia 304, Bryan 43, Ken 102, Adutwum 0, Kwabena 2
- Ofoase-Ayeribi: Bawumia 335, Bryan 108, Ken 121
- New Juaben South – Polling Station A: Bawumia 269, Bryan 59, Ken 167 (Total votes cast 503/558 delegates)
- New Juaben South – Polling Station B: Bawumia 325, Bryan 45, Ken 101, Adutwum 3 (516 delegates; 45 did not vote)
- Abetifi: Bawumia 37, Bryan 665, Ken 16, Adutwum 0, Kwabena 0 (Total votes 718)
While Bryan Acheampong won narrowly in his home constituency of Abetifi, Bawumia dominated the rest of the Eastern Region, including Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Abuakwa South, Fanteakwa South, and New Juaben South, Ofoase-Ayirebi, signaling strong cross-constituency support.
The exercise, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, saw an estimated 211,000 delegates vote nationwide at more than 300 centres to elect the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Party officials praised the peaceful conduct of the primaries and commended delegates for actively participating in the democratic process.
