The Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s peace and stability through inclusive governance and improved socio-economic development.
He made the statement at a dissemination workshop on Prevention of Violent Extremism Through Social Accountability organized by the Catholic Relief Services, CRS, at the Akayet Hotel in Bolgatanga.
According to the Minister, the administration of President John Dramani Mahama remains focused on addressing the underlying factors that promote peace and national cohesion.
“The government of John Mahama remains steadfast to safeguarding Ghana’s peace through inclusive governance, quality education, youth employment, social protection, job creation and improved public service delivery.”
According to the minister, the workshop is far more than the dissemination of research findings. It provides a strategic platform to deepen our collective understanding of drives of violent extremism and build practical solutions to combating violent extremism.
The Regional Minister cautioned against complacency despite Ghana’s record of relative peace, noting that the evolving security situation in the West African sub-region demands sustained vigilance.
For his part, Although Ghana has remained relatively insulated from terrorist attacks, the nation cannot afford complacency.
He further underscored the strategic importance of the Upper East Region, which shares borders with neighbouring countries, and called for stronger collaboration among all stakeholders to prevent the spread of violent extremism.
