Ghana’s Black Queens suffered their first defeat at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), falling 1-0 to Cameroon in a crucial Group D encounter at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
A first-half strike from Monique Ngock was enough to earn the Indomitable Lionesses all three points, sending Cameroon into the quarter-finals with a perfect six points from their opening two matches.
The Black Queens made a positive start and looked to build on their 2-0 opening win over Cape Verde. They enjoyed good spells of possession and created several scoring opportunities, but Cameroon remained solid at the back before taking the lead. Ghana pressed for an equaliser after the break but could not find a way past the disciplined Cameroonian defence.
The defeat leaves Ghana in second place in Group D with three points from two games. Cameroon sit at the top of the table with six points and have already secured qualification to the quarter-finals. Mali moved into third place with three points after edging Cape Verde 3-2, while Cape Verde remain bottom without a point.

The final round of Group D fixtures will be played on 6 August. Ghana will face Mali in a must-win match as they chase a place in the quarter-finals, while already-qualified Cameroon take on Cape Verde looking to complete the group stage with a perfect record.
