New Patrotic Party Communication Team Member Lawuratu Musah-Saaka has criticised Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang over what she describes as her silence on recent happenings in the country, particularly issues affecting women.
Speaking to Isaac Addae on Morning Starr on Starr FM, Lawuratu Musah-Saaka said the Vice President’s silence on the situation in the country is becoming increasingly concerning.
“I think her silence is too loud on the happenings in our country now,” she said.
She questioned the Vice President’s response to issues affecting women, particularly at a time when the government has pledged to achieve 30% representation of women.
Lawuratu Musah-Saaka said the government itself has acknowledged the difficulties involved in getting more women into public service, making it important for women’s concerns to receive attention.
“They themselves are struggling to get a 30% women representation that they promised. The 30% representation is their affirmative action,” she said.
She argued that the difficulty in convincing women to enter public service makes the treatment of women in the country an important issue that should not be overlooked.
The NPP Communication Team Member further raised concerns about the number of young women she said have been detained and had their rights infringed upon since the government came into power.
She questioned how the government could promote greater participation of women in public service while concerns about the treatment and rights of women remain unresolved.
“The situation raises questions about the government’s commitment to the promises it made to Ghanaians during the campaign”. She said.
