Accusations against Akufo-Addo appointing Kodua Fokuo, Kpemka baseless – Asah Asante

Senior political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana – Legon, Dr. Asah Asante says accusations against President Akufo-Addo appointing political actors to head state-owned institutions are baseless.

This comes on the back of a section of the public accusing the President of appointing political persons to key state institutions. President Akufo-Addo has appointed Mr. Tweneboah Kodua Fokuo as the Managing Director for the National Investment Bank (NIB).

His latest appointment is former Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Joseph Kpemka as the Deputy Managing Director of Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Limited Company (BOST).

The Minority in Parliament has kicked against the appointment of Mr. Tweneboah Kodua Fokuo, who is the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Manso Nkwanta as the new Managing Director for the (NIB).

In a statement by the National Democratic Congress lawmakers stated that the appointment raises serious concerns about the politicization of State Owned Enterprises, adding that the ignoble thinking behind the appointment must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

However, speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban on Monday, the political science lecturer stated that the attacks on the President and persons appointed are unfair.

“Mr. Fokuo has been deputy director and being a deputy he is still a political actor and nobody has raised a figure, why are people raising figures now? So for me, there is something wrong with the public view about it. Because if the man has not broken any law and there is nobody has come out that there is this law that prevents the man from being in that office, I mean all will be much ado about nothing.

“It is just mere noise. If look at all the things that they have talked about if there is a law that such appointments seek to breach people will not hesitate to go to court immediately. Why are they delaying going to court? It tells you there is nothing in there, from the logical deductions I realized there is nothing in there to pin it against them,” Dr. Asah stated.

He added that persons aggrieved with the President’s appointment should go to court if they have any genuine reason based on the law.
