AGA military killings: Rev. Ransford Obeng consoles bereaved families, urges respect for laws

The head pastor and general overseer for the Calvary Charismatic Centre, Rev Ransford Obeng has expressed his deepest grief about the death of some seven suspected illegal miners who were killed by armed military personnel at the AngloGold Ashanti Mines at Obuasi.

In a media briefing prior to a three-day conference with Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil at the church’s Ayigya headquarters, Rev. Obeng stated that these deaths could have been avoided if civilians had exercised greater responsibility by staying away from the mining property.

“We mourn with all the families that have lost their loved ones but we pray that let us all be law abiding. I want to encourage every Ghanaian that no one is above the law. NO one should take the law into their own hands and do whatever they want,” he stated.

The soldiers are reported to have discharged rounds of fire at the fleeing suspects who had compromised the fences of AngloGold Ashanti ostensibly to unlawfully gain access to mining shafts in search of gold.

Investigations are underway to validate or disprove conflicting information about the suspects firing at the military patrol team and whether or not the military’s claim that the suspects were armed with locally made and foreign manufactured rifles and other harmful implements, are true.

Rev. Ransford Obeng urged party faithful of the governing National Democratic Congress to immediately halt postelection violence and forceful takeovers of public assets and state institutions insisting that the act tells badly on the newly elected president.

“I want to tell persons in all parties; please let us stop any violence because we have elected a new president. If there is anything to do, pray for that president and corporate with him. Anything that you do that causes violence and loss of lives brings discredit to the president. That is why I encourage every Ghanaian to be a good citizen,” he admonished.

START WELL

Rev. Ransford Obeng announced that the church will hold its annual mammoth three day spiritual empowerment program christened ‘start well with the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Rev. Mensa Otabil from Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th January, 2025.

The renowned televangelist, best author and speaker has at the beginning of each year used this calendar program to help millions begin their year right with uplifting messages.

The event which draws both Christians and members of other faiths together has become a source of inspiration and motivation leading many to renew their relationships with their maker, reignite their dreams and realign their ways.

“This Start Well Conference which commences at 6pm on Thursday and Friday with a leadership summit at 8am on Saturday have been designed to allow God through his servant Dr Mensa Otabil to direct as well as help us focus our minds on our new year resolutions so that we can fulfill them by the end of the year”, the CCC General Overseer stressed.

He reiterated Rev Dr. Mensa Otabil’s far reaching messages that resonate with students, businessmen, corporate leaders and different classes of persons slated to troop to the church with genuine expectancy for a word from God.

To support residents of the Ashanti Region to make it with ease to and from the Ayigya Headquarters of the Church, the church has committed to deploying busses across all vantage areas to convey congregants for free.

Advice to Ghanaians

Rev Ransford Obeng urged the newly sworn in president John Dramani Mahama, to live up to the promises made to the people of Ghana during his 2024 presidential Campaign.

He however warned that the nation will only enjoy the benefits of good governance and economic prosperity if the citizenry rally together to support the president execute his agenda.

“I urge Ghanaians to support the NDC government to implement its ideas and policies so that together we can enjoy the fruits of a better economy”, Rev. Obeng advised.
