Akropong School for the Blind has emerged victorious in the 2025 Goalball Tournament, beating Ho New Horizon Foundation 1-0 in the final match held at the Lincoln Community School in Abelenkpe.

The two-day tournament, organized by Football-In-Your-Life and Help Dunya E.V, featured four schools for the visually impaired: Akropong School for the Blind, Ho New Horizon Foundation, Cape Coast, and Avakpodome Three Kings schools for the blind.

The winning team expressed their joy and gratitude after the match, with the captain calling on other schools to continue training and striving for excellence.

“We are overjoyed to have won the tournament. We call on all schools to keep training, and we hope to defend our title next year,” the captain said.

The coach of Akropong School, Maxwell Asante Kwarteng, also expressed his delight at the win and called on the National Sports Authority to provide more competitions for schools for the visually impaired.

“We’re thrilled with the win, and we call on the National Sports Authority to provide more competitions for schools for the visually impaired. This will help our students develop their skills and compete at a higher level,” Coach Kwarteng said.

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who graced the occasion, commended the organizers for promoting sports for the visually impaired.

“I commend the organizers for this wonderful tournament. We need more of such events to promote sports for the visually impaired,” Mr. Ankrah said.

Germany’s Deputy National Goalball Coach, Sebastian Muller, who watched the tournament, was impressed by the talent of the young players but emphasized the need for more training.

“I’m impressed by the talent of these young players. However, they need more training to develop their skills. I’m happy to see the passion and dedication on display,” Mr. Muller said.

The organizers of the tournament expressed satisfaction with the event and urged the kids to be bold and continue training.

The tournament was a huge success, with so much passion and joy on display from the kids. It is hoped that the annual event promoting sports for the visually impaired in Ghana will have a bigger third edition next year.
