The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has officially approved the grant of the Damang Mining Lease to Engineers and Planners Ltd (E&P).
A statement from the Ministry, which was signed by the sector Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, said the company was selected after comprehensive evaluation by the Minerals Commission’s Tender Committee.
The committee organised a high-stakes competitive tender process, which was aimed at revitalizing one of the country’s significant mineral assets.
Four indigenous firms – Engineers and Planners Ltd, Heath Goldfields Ltd,Vortex Resources Mining Group, and Maripoma Mining Services Ltd – applied for the lease.
According to the statement, strict compliance protocols saw the immediate disqualification of Vortex Resources and Maripoma Mining Services for
were disqualified as “non-responsive for failing to submit the required documents.”
“Following the technical assessment, Heath Goldfields Ltd failed to achieve the minimum qualifying score of 80%, and its financial proposal was therefore not evaluated, in line with the notice,” the statement continued.
Engineers and Planners Ltd, the statement said, further secured the lease by demonstrating robust financial backing and technical expertise.
According to the Ministry, E&P provided documented evidence of access to financing that met the USD 500 million minimum threshold required for the project.
Beyond the financials, the Tender Committee noted E&P’s deep understanding of the Damang Mine’s unique geology and infrastructure. Notably, the company’s proposal included strategic measures designed to extend the life of the mine by more than a decade, a key factor in ensuring sustained economic contribution to the national treasury.
“The Company demonstrated the highest capability to operate the Damang mine, substantiated by their submission of the most viable tender,” the Minister stated, commending the Tender Committee for their dedication to the “critical national assignment.”
The Minerals Commission has been directed to take the final regulatory steps to formalize the approval.
