National Democratic Congress member of parliament for the Akwatia constituency, Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., says Ghanaians have not forgotten the controversies surrounding the $12 million Pwalugu project and the $2 million associated with the SkyTrain initiative.
Speaking with Isaac Addae on The Verdict, Mr Baidoo said the issues surrounding the projects remain fresh in the minds of Ghanaians.
“Ghanaians haven’t forgotten the $97 million in Daho? We’ve not forgotten the $12 million the Pwalugu contractor has taken away,” he said.
He also mentioned the SkyTrain project, noting that Ghana had not yet received any trains despite the money involved.
“We’ve not forgotten that SkyTrain… we don’t even have landed trains… we were thinking about SkyTrains, and then the $2 million was given as whatever,” he stated.
Mr Baidoo said there had been an expectation that the money would be used towards acquiring a train, but it was later explained that the payment was for a feasibility study.
“We said, maybe you have given it to the manufacturers of the train. Give us details, let’s go and pay the rest, and then take the train. They said, no, that money was not even for the purchase of a train, it was for feasibility study,” he explained.
The Akwatia MP also referred to promises concerning the 24-hour economy and district-level development, questioning what had been delivered.
“They should tell us how many districts; they said 24-hour economy; they should come and account to us how many district factories they built before. Where are the dumps?” he asked.
He said the time for addressing some of these issues had not yet come, but insisted that when the time comes, the matters would be raised.
“It’s not time yet. But when it is time, we will play; whether they like it or not, they will hear in their heads. We are just waiting for them” he said.
