The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., has outlined a series of development projects under way in the constituency, covering roads, bridges, telecommunications, education, healthcare and electricity supply.

Speaking on The Verdict, hosted by Isaac Addae on Starr FM, Mr Baidoo said inadequate road infrastructure had been among the most pressing concerns for residents of Akwatia and surrounding communities. He said construction work was ongoing in several towns, including Achim Tabrasse, Achim Kusi, Wenchi, Takrasi, Kusi, Soprema, Apenamay and Sefikrom.

He further cited the construction of the Swabe Bridge and Number Four Bridge, both of which he said had remained in poor condition for a number of years. He added that measures were also being taken to improve road connectivity between Akwatia and communities in the former railway area, which he said would reduce the need for residents to travel through Kedi.

On telecommunications, Mr Baidoo said he had raised concerns over inadequate network coverage in Topreman with the Minister for Communications, Sam George, who he said had subsequently referred the issue to the National Communications Authority.

Turning to education, the MP said more than 1,200 students preparing to enter senior high school had registered with his office to receive support items, including mattresses, trunks, buckets and school bags. He said the initiative was available to all students irrespective of their parents’ political affiliation.

On healthcare, Mr Baidoo said a CHPS compound he had inherited was approximately 97% complete, while nurses’ quarters initiated under his tenure were between 90% and 95% complete. He also referenced ongoing classroom construction, a durbar ground under construction at Okumene, and a CHPS compound at Adedjinsu.

He said approximately seven communities were being connected to the national electricity grid through a cost-sharing arrangement involving the relevant ministry and contractors.

Addressing questions on sanitation, Mr Baidoo said waste management fell primarily under the remit of the District Assembly and local government authorities, noting that the Assembly had engaged a contractor to oversee the service. He said he had not received any complaints to date but would intervene should residents raise concerns.
