Alabi: NDC’s healing process begins now

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Prof Joshua Alabi has charged the leadership of the party to immediately begin the process of implementing the recommendation of the Kwesi Botchwey report to mend the cracks in the party.

On Monday June 19, 2017, the committee led by former finance Minister, Prof. Kwesi Botchwey submitted to the hierarchy of the NDC a 455-page report capturing a series of diagnosis from its members nationwide on why it lost the 2016 polls.

Although details of the report remain largely unknown, snippets of its recommendations leaked to the media pointed to a disconnect between the party and its grassroots, urging reconnection.

Also, it recommended that a healing tour be embarked on by credible and eminent persons within the party.

Presenting the report, chairman of the committee, Prof. Botchwey tasked the party to restore the capacity and effectiveness of the party’s organs especially at the branch levels to reconnect to the grassroots.

Commenting on the work of the committee in a statement Tuesday June 20, 2017, Prof Alabi who is eyeing the NDC flagbearer slot into the 2020 elections described the committee’s work as “meticulous” and that its recommendations are likely to meet the “aspirations “of the party’s grassroots.

He pointed that from the findings of the Committee, “there is no doubt that our party has been severely wounded and greatly hurt by the political set-back of 2016,” stating “I trust that the leadership of our party would go straight to work to implement the recommendations to facilitate our reorganization and prepare us for a return to government in 2020.”

“Now that the wait is over, I urge the leadership of the party to begin the healing process immediately without further delay. Armed with the knowledge of what happened, it is time to use our set-back of 2016 as the set-up for our come-back in 2020,” he added.
