Ghana’s Female U-17 side, the Black Maidens thrashed their Senegalese counterpart by three unanswered goals in the return league encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The maidens went into the game with a one goal advantage from the first leg courtesy a Princess Owusu goal in the 87th minute in Dakar.
The Black Maidens started the game on a bright note but failed to score in the first half. Karima Abdulai, Princess Owusu and Stella Abena Nyamekye came close several times but wasted all the chances that came their way.
The story was different in the second half as captain Georgina Aisha Aoyem opened the goal scoring with a wonderful effort in the forty-eighth minute to break the deadlock.
Princess Owusu made amends for the chances she missed in the first half by pounding on a cross from the right side of the Senegalese defense.
Twelve minutes later, Princess Owusu was sent off by the referee to take an early shower for kicking a Senegalese player who was on field. But that did not affect the determined Maidens as Karima Abdulai grabbed the third goal two minutes later to seal victory even before Princess Owusu could reach the tunnel.
The Maidens have never failed to make a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup since the competition’s inception in 2008 and are one of the most consistent teams in the world, making the quarter finals on the last three occasions.
The Women’s 2022 FIFA U-17 World Cup will be held in India from October 11, 2022, to October 30, 2022 and the Black Maidens will be looking to make their seventh straight appearance at the global stage.
