BoG, Petroleum C’ssion, others donate GHC12.6m to Covid-19 Trust Fund

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has donated Ten Million Ghana Cedis to the Covid-19 National Trust Fund which has been established by an Act of Parliament, (Act 1013) to help the needy and vulnerable in society as the nation fights to stop the spread of the novel Coronavirus, Covid-19.

At a brief ceremony at the offices of the Trust Fund at its Point Six office in the Jubilee House, Ms. Sandra Thompson, the Secretary of the Bank, in the company of Esi Hammond, the Corporate Communications Manager, presented their cheque to the lead trustee of the Fund, Chief Justice (Rtd) Sophia Akuffo.

Ms. Thompson stated that the central bank as part of its corporate social responsibility decided to contribute to the fund to support its mandate as captured in the Act of Parliament that established it. She wished the Chairperson and her colleague trustees well as they worked to offer help to the needy and vulnerable in the country.

Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Chief Justice (Rtd) Sophia Akuffo, registered the appreciation of the entire board of trustees to the bank for its thoughtfulness. She indicated that the fund is gradually institutionalizing and would soon hit the ground running.

Justice Sophia Akuffo also took advantage of the occasion to announce the account numbers of the Covid-19 National Trust Fund. In all, four banks accounts have been opened at the Bank of Ghana in four (4) different currencies, Ghana Cedis Account (Account Number : 1018631613357), United States Dollars Account (Account Number : 1028631613107), British Pounds Account (Account Number : 1038631613021) and a Euro Account (Account Number : 1188631613023). She noted that individuals, institutions and corporate organizations are at liberty to pay their contributions to any of the account numbers and notify the Secretariat of the trust fund about same.

The Petroleum Commission, through its Chief Executive Officer, Egbert Faibille Jr, and in the company of Richard Addo Darko, the Director of Resource Management and Vincent Yankey, the Director of Finance, also presented a cheque of One Million Ghana Cedis, (GHc 1,000,000.00) to the fund. Mr. Faibille observed that the Petroleum Commission is excited to be in a position to contribute its portion to the fund. He added that the Commission will continue to monitor the work of the trust fund and support same in any way possible in the foreseeable future.

OTHER COVID-19 NATIONAL TRUST FUND DONATIONS

1. East Cantonment Pharmacy Limited,(ECP) represented by its Sales and Marketing Lead, Ebenezer Holm Graves, presented One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis, (GHc 100,000.00).

2. Stallion Group, represented by its Regional Head Finance, Sameer H. Gupta, presented a Hyundai – H1 Ambulance, worth Thirty Five Thousand Dollars ($35,000.00).

3. Auto Parts Limited (APL Nissan), represented by its Managing Director, Subhi Accaad, presented a Nissan NP 300 Hardbody Pick-Up Truck, worth One Hundred and Fourty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH 144,000.00).

4. Total Petroleum Ghana Limited (TOTAL), ably represented by its Health, Safety, Environment Quality Manager, Frank Boamah and Communications Manager, Linda Andoh, made a presentation of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 100,000.00), worth of fuel. This constituted 100 Total Cards of 230 Litres each at GHc 1,000.00 therefore totalling GHc 100,000.00.

5. ACADIA Industries Limited, makers of the popular Tampico, represented by its Managing Director, Fouad Moufarrej, presented Twenty Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 25,000.00) and five hundred cartons of Tampico with twelve pieces in each box and therefore totalling six thousand (6,000) 300 ml Tampico bottles.

6. Hon Susana Mensah, Former Deputy Eastern Regional Minister (Kufour Administration), made a personal donation of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) to the fund.

7. National Insurance Commission (NIC), represented by its Commissioner, Justice Ofori and Deputy Commissioner, Michael Kofi Andoh, presented Two Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 200,000.00) to the Covid-19 National Trust Fund.

8. West African Insurance Companies Association represented by its Secretary General, William Coker, presented Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 5,000.00).

9. Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), represented by its President, Rev. Asante Marfo-Ahenkora, presented Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 50,000.00) to the trust fund.

10. Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana, represented by the President of the Association, Lena Adu-Kofi, presented Two Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 200,000.00).

11. Ghana Insurers Association, represented by its Second Vice Chairman and CEO of Unique Insurance Company Limited, Victor Obeng-Adiyiah, presented Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 500,000.00) to the fund.

12. Ghana Insurance College (GIC), represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Richard Okyere, presented Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 50,000.00).

13. Ghana National Bureau – ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, represented by its Chief Executive Officer/General Secretary, Patrick Agyekum, presented One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 100,000.00).

14. New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA Ghana Wing, represented by its Chairman, Nana Agyei Yeboah, Kwame Agyeman-Budu, First Vice Chairman, and Hajia Fatima presented Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 50,000.00) to the trust fund.

15. National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Hanan Abdul – Wahab, presented One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 100,000.00).

16. Care International (Ghana), through its Country Director, Rose Tchwenko, presented Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis, (GHc 50,000.00).

17 Cenpower Generation Company Limited, represented by a member of its Board of Directors, Dr. Jimmy Heymann and CEO Theophilus Sackey, presented Two Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 200,000.00) to the fund.

18. Graduate Impresarios Association, through its President, Cephas Doni, presented One Thousand, Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHc 1,500.00).
