A 26-year-old man, Barron Guda, popularly known as “Efutu,” has been burnt to death in a suspected arson attack at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of the day when fire engulfed his wooden ghetto structure.

His body was discovered burnt beyond recognition after personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the police responded to a distress call from residents at about 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Residents who spoke to GHOne News’ Yaw Boagyan suspect foul play.
They alleged that some mechanics in the area had earlier threatened to burn Efutu alive or evict him from the structure, accusing him of stealing items from their workshops.
“It’s no surprise. The fitters warned they would burn him or drive him out. That’s why we believe they intentionally set the place on fire,” a resident claimed.
However, others offered a different account, suggesting the fire may have been accidental.
According to them, Efutu was seen earlier acting erratically while smoking, raising the possibility that a lit cigarette may have triggered the blaze.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Assin Fosu St. Xavier Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
Meanwhile, the incident has been reported to the Assin Fosu Police Command for investigation. No arrest has been made so far.
