The Upper East regional Minister Paulina Abayage has appealed to the attorney general department to contract EIB’s Edward Adeti to investigate other offices under the department in other regions across the country following the Cash for Justice investigative piece.
It comes after Adeti’s investigative piece uncovered rot at the AG’s department in the Upper East region. A senior state attorney Lawrence Otoo-Boison, who has since been interdicted, was seen taking money to compromise his position.
“I congratulate Edward Adeti for a good work done. I don’t think I was much surprise seeing the video especially the teasers. The AG department in the region is not a very big one. A bad nut in the system has messed up the whole department in the region.The gentleman who was interdicted was one I called to my office. He mentioned dockets are not complete and all of that. The complains that has come from the police and victims about how cases in court are dragged didn’t put me in shock when the CASH FOR JUSTICE video was shown,” she told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Thursday.
She added: And I think adeti should be contracted to look into other regions as well. These things cannot be allowed to continue. am informed that most of the victims who have been denied justice are happy with the expose. I will urge all in the region to remain calm and still have confidence in the system because there are some good persons in the system as well”.
Senior state attorney Lawrence Otoo-Boison, in a conversation caught on tape advised a crime suspect, who is said to be on the list of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), to run away from facing trial after taking a pregnant goat and cash from the suspect’s ‘agent’ in the latest undercover investigation on Ghana’s justice system.
The suspect, Mohammed Awal, is standing trial in the Upper East region for rape and is reportedly also wanted in Burkina Faso for alleged involvement in some crimes committed in the neighbouring West African country.
The state prosecutor gave the advice with a strong tone during the undercover piece by the journalist.
