Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is expected to report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) today, June 4, in line with the conditions of his bail.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested on May 27 as part of ongoing investigations into alleged fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
He was granted bail on May 28 to the tune of GH₵50 million with two justified sureties.
Although his legal team, led by Andy Appiah-Kubi, met the bail requirements by May 30, his release was delayed due to a motion filed at the High Court in Accra seeking a review of the bail terms.
That motion, filed without Wontumi’s direct approval, was subsequently withdrawn on June 2, allowing for his release later that day.
NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua confirmed the release to supporters gathered at EOCO on Monday evening and expressed appreciation to MP for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, for his role in supporting the process.

Wontumi’s arrest and detention drew widespread attention, with party officials and supporters decrying the bail conditions as excessive and politically motivated.
The case has since gained national prominence, with Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai suggesting possible links to an international organized crime syndicate.
Meanwhile, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) is reportedly working on a separate docket, parallel to ongoing investigations by EOCO and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Chairman Wontumi is expected to cooperate fully with authorities as investigations continue.
