In a major step toward enhancing surgical safety and infection control in Ghana’s public health sector, the Czech Republic, in partnership with SEDA Africa Group, has donated a state-of-the-art plasma sterilisation machine to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
Valued at over 3 million cedis, the advanced equipment is designed to significantly improve sterilisation processes within the hospital’s surgical and maternity departments—offering a safer, more energy-efficient alternative to conventional methods.
Speaking at a brief handing-over ceremony in Accra, the Czech Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Pavel Bílek, said the donation reflects the Czech Republic’s long-standing commitment to Ghana’s healthcare development, a partnership that gained renewed momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Czech firms supplied PPE and critical medical equipment to hospitals across the country.
“Over the past five years, Czechia-backed projects have supported more than 20 healthcare facilities in Ghana,” Ambassador Bílek noted.
“These have included ICU beds, surgical tools, and capacity-building for hospital staff.”
The donation was facilitated by SEDA Africa Group, a private organisation championing health innovation and development across Africa. Its CEO and Founder, Martin Habart, reaffirmed the group’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved regions.
“We are committed to scaling up the distribution of medical supplies in areas where the need is greatest,” Mr Habart said.
The Czech delegation, alongside hospital officials, toured key departments that had previously benefited from similar interventions.
Hospital administrators say the donation arrives at a crucial time, as the facility works to meet rising demands for quality care and surgical efficiency.
This latest partnership underscores the importance of global cooperation in driving sustainable healthcare reform in Ghana. As the country continues to invest in modernising its health infrastructure, such initiatives promise a brighter, safer future for patients and health workers alike.
