Ghana’s biggest opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is appealing to the media in Ghana to be objective in their work as the country prepares to go to the polls in December.
Speaking at a media soiree in Sekondi, Western Regional Chairman for the NDC Nana Ababio Kwadwo Toku said even though the party will not dictate how the media should operate, it expects that facts will be cross-checked before stories are put out.
He revealed that out of the 17 constituencies in the Western Region, the party has held 16 parliamentary primaries with Amenfi East outstanding due to the Party’s strategy and not that the party has no candidate.
“Ever since the NDC was voted out from power, I sometimes receive reports about the misunderstanding between our communicators and radio show host, this is the time for stock taking, what can be done to improve some of these misunderstandings, what can we do to promote peace in this electioneering year, the NDC will work with the media so as the ruling party but our plea is that be fair and factual”, he posited.
Nana Toku further advised the media not to be in a rush to report stories “sometimes your side of the story won’t be heard and by the time you are giving the opportunity to clear yourself the harm has already been created”, he noted.
The Regional Organizer of the NDC, Japhet Baidoe expressed concerns over how some projects in the Western Region are being represented as part of the 1 District 1 Factory initiative of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
