Eastern Regional Minister Designate seeks blessings from Krobo Chiefs ahead of vetting

The Eastern Regional Minister Designate, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has paid a courtesy call on chiefs in Krobo land to seek their prayers, support, and blessings ahead of her vetting by the appointment committee of Parliament of Ghana.

The minister-designate and her delegation visited the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, Okper, and the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council as part of her engagement.

Nene Sakite II , Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo, assured her of the council’s unwavering support, declaring their commitment to ensuring her success.

“This is time for celebration. I am personally happy that President Mahama appointed our daughter to represent him in the Eastern Region. Very soon she will be going through the vetting process. We will support her to the vetting. So she must not be afraid of anything”, Said Nene Sakite II.

He expressed joy at her nomination by President John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing his confidence in her competence and capabilities.

Nene Sakite II who doubles as President of Eastern Regional House of Chiefs also pledged that chiefs and queen mothers in Krobo land would be present in their numbers to support her during the vetting.

He gifted the Minister a book tittled “The Gospel and Tradition” authored by himself to guide her.

Oklepeme Nuer Annorbaa Sasraku II, Paramount Chief of Yilo Krobo, also pledged full support from his council, celebrating Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey as the first female Regional Minister from Krobo land.

He was optimistic that the Minister designate if approved by parliament will be an outstanding Regional Minister.

He commended President Mahama for recognizing the contributions of the Krobo people, citing the past appointment of Seth Terkper as Finance Minister and the current nomination of Rita Awatey as a continuation of this acknowledgment.

The Minister-designate Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey expressed gratitude to the chiefs and queen mothers,and assured of her commitment to working closely with them to addressing challenges in the region.

She mentioned key issues such as poor road networks, illegal mining, security youth unemployment, and economic inequalities among women as some of the notable challenges that confront the region.

“We have a lot of challenges we have security challenges, our roads are not good, we need portable water to drink, our youth want to work, our women need to go to market. We want to appreciate H.E John Mahama for the numerous assistance and holding hands that he has given to the Krobo land.”

The minister-designate entourage included David Tettey, Regional Vice Chairman; Shirley Naana Ampem, Regional Organizer; Hackman Kabore, Regional Organizer; and his deputy, David Dakudzi, along with other executives from the Krobo bloc.
