The Ministry of Education has dismissed as false a publication claiming that the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called for the introduction of a 13th month salary for teachers.
In a statement dated December 17, 2025, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a report circulating on the Opera News platform, which attributed comments to the Minister suggesting that a 13th month salary would be introduced to enhance teachers’ welfare and motivation. The report further alleged that the comments were made at a policy forum in Accra.
The Ministry categorically denied the claims, stating that at no point during any public forum, engagement, or official interaction did the Minister make such remarks. It described the publication as a blatant falsehood and an act of deliberate misinformation intended to mislead the public.
While reaffirming government’s commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of teachers and education sector workers through structured dialogue and sustainable policy measures, the Ministry stressed that no such proposal has been announced or advocated by the Minister.
The Ministry has therefore called on Opera News to immediately retract the publication and issue an unqualified public apology to the Minister and the Ministry of Education. It also urged the public to disregard the report and avoid sharing unverified or misleading information that could cause unnecessary worry and confusion.
According to the statement, the Ministry remains committed to transparent communication and will continue to engage the public through credible and official channels.
