The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made history by successfully retaining the Adentan Constituency seat in the Greater Accra Region, a milestone in the constituency’s political history.

Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, the NDC’s Parliamentary candidate, has become the first Member of Parliament (MP) in Adentan to secure a second consecutive term.

In a commanding victory, Ramadan polled 56,303 votes, defeating New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Akosua Asaa Manu, who garnered 35,143 votes.

This victory is significant, as no previous MP in the Adentan Constituency, created in 2004 from the Ashaiman Constituency, had retained their seat for a second term. The constituency has witnessed multiple electoral shifts, with four MPs failing to hold onto the seat, either losing in party primaries or general elections.

Ramadan first won the seat in 2020, defeating then-incumbent Yaw Buaben Asamoah of the NPP with 63,436 votes to Asamoah’s 49,255.

Despite a decrease in votes compared to his 2020 win, Ramadan’s solid support in the constituency allowed him to break the jinx of one-term MPs and make political history by securing a second term.

In his reaction following the declaration of results, Ramadan expressed gratitude to his supporters and the people of Adentan for their continued trust, saying, “I thank the party supporters for their hard work, and the good people of Adentan for believing in me.”

In the presidential race, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC also triumphed in Adentan, securing 60,116 votes, while NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 29,578 votes.
