The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has refuted recent claims of a shortage of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) fuel in Ghana, assuring the public and airline operators that there is currently no shortage and that sufficient supplies are available to support all aircraft operations.
In a press release dated July 24, 2025, the Ministry explained that recent reports suggesting otherwise are false and should be disregarded.
The statement attributed the concerns to the recent completion of overdue maintenance on the ATK jetty pipeline, which had it been further delayed, could have compromised the integrity of the jetty and Ghana’s fuel security.
To bolster fuel availability, the country recently received an ATK shipment of 11,984 metric tonnes. According to the Ministry, 4,583 metric tonnes have already been discharged to the Petroleum Warehouse and Storage Limited (PWSL), with the remainder currently being delivered to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and the Ridge Depots via the TOR Jetty. The full discharge process is expected to conclude by midday on July 25, 2025.
Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah (MP), has also engaged key stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector and the Ghana Airport Company Limited to reassure them of stable supply levels.
“We urge the public to disregard any false reports of ATK shortages in the country,” the Ministry emphasised.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring the fuel security of Ghana and maintaining confidence in the aviation sector.
