District Minister in charge of the Ascension Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Koforidua, Rev Justice Kwame Asumeng has called on the opposition National Democratic Congress to aggressively fight poverty should the party return to power.

He said poverty is the Goliath of Africa and Ghana destroying destinies, marriages, families and disintegrating the future of the youth therefore must be the focus of every leader in Ghana.

“I am appealing to Pastors, chiefs, politicians of all the colours to shift our focus to things that are killing us-malaria, accident and the other one which is more serious and devastating which is the Goliath is poverty. The Goliath of Africa, the Goliath of Ghana is Poverty. Poverty kills destiny, kills marriage, kills beauty. Poverty destroys destiny, poverty destroys marriage, poverty destroys potentials, poverty can lock up everything. It can render a whole nation powerless and this is the essence of leadership”

Rev. Justice Kwame Asumeng said this when he delivering a sermon at a Thanksgiving service by the Eastern Regional Executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday June 4, 2023 at Ebenezer Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in New Akrade, Asuogyaman constituency, for a successful internal elections.

He commended the NDC for peaceful internal elections.

“So if both at the local level, constituency level and national level you have held peaceful elections I think you deserve a praise”

Rev. Justice Asumeng charged the NDC to correct its mistakes and be well prepared like David who came out of the wilderness fully prepared to rule, so that should the party win the general elections in 2024, it governs Ghana better to improve the living standards of Ghanaians.

Eastern Regional Chairman of NDC Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor said the Lord has been good to the party by ensuring a successful internal elections hence the thanksgiving.

He explained the NDC has in the last few months elected branch, constituency, Regional, National executives and climaxed with Parliamentary and Presidential Primaries all conducted in the atmosphere of peace and unity.

He is confident John Dramani Mahama and the NDC will return to power in 2025 to rescue the economy to improve the living standards of Ghanains.

The Eastern regional executives of the NDC were joined by some NDC Members of Parliament such as Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Asuogyaman, Sam George, Ningo Prampram, Isaac Adongo Bolgatanga Central, Abla Dzifa Gomashie ,MP for Ketu South, Bismarck Tetteh Nyarko, Upper Manya Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, Yilo Krobo MP, constituency executives and members of the party.

Speaking on behalf of the Minority caucus, MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George thanked the Reverend Minister for the wise counsel to the NDC to prepare well in the wilderness.

He assured that the Minority MPs will ensure only transactions and policies beneficial to Ghanaians are passed in parliament, adding that they will keep the government to account.
