Former Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bosu has been appointed as Ghana’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.
He served as the KMA Boss between 2013 and 2016 under the previous Mahama administration.
His appointment was captured in a letter signed by Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama dated June 10, 2025 announcing the appointment of fifteen (15) ambassadors, high commissioners and consul-general designates.
“I write to inform you that the President of the Republic, following consultation with the Council of State, has nominated the following individuals as Ambassadors/High Commissioners and Consul-General designates.

“Kindly take the necessary steps to facilitate the appointment process for the nominees listed above. Please accept the President’s highest regards,” the letter stated.
Background
Kojo Bonsu (born Michael Kojo Bonsu or Mensa – Bonsu) is a Ghanaian businessman, sports administrator and politician, who served as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from 2013 to 2016.
In September 2018, Mr. Bonsu declared his intention to contest the presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
However, two months later, he announced his decision to drop out of the race for the role and threw his support to whoever would emerge winner at the end of the primaries.
Again, in May 2023, Kojo Bonsu made another attempt to lead the party as its flagbearer in the 2024 elections but lost to John Dramani Mahama who won the primaries with a landslide victory of 98.9%.
