The Ghana Education Service (GES) has denied authorising any senior high school to charge feeding fees or any other form of fees to students and parents under the Free SHS policy.
In a statement, GES stressed that “Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has not authorised or sanctioned any school to charge fees—under any name or in any form—from students or parents.”
The Service urged the public to ignore what it described as false claims being circulated by persons seeking to mislead the public.
“The public is therefore urged to disregard such unsubstantiated claims being circulated by individuals seeking to misinform,” the statement added.
GES further warned that any school imposing charges under the guise of feeding fees would be acting illegally and without the approval of management.
“Nonetheless, any school found to be charging money under the guise of feeding fees, as alleged, is acting unlawfully and without the approval of Management,” it stressed.
The Service reaffirmed government’s commitment to the Free Senior High School policy, noting that efforts remain focused on sustaining and improving the programme.
It cautioned that attempts to undermine the policy through misinformation or unauthorised fee collection would not be tolerated.
“Therefore, any attempt to undermine this policy—whether through the spread of false information or through clandestinely imposing fees on students—will be treated as an act contrary to national interest,” the statement said.
GES also encouraged parents and students to report any school demanding feeding fees for investigations and possible sanctions.
