The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a significant step towards enhancing safety and security during football matches in Ghana by partnering with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to train security officers for the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative.
In this vein, a 3-day training workshop has been held at the GFA’s headquarters, bringing together safety and security officers from all 18 Premier League clubs in Ghana. The training was led by two CAF security experts, Xololi Nokithula Vilakati and Sylvanus Obi, who shared their expertise and knowledge with the participants.
The CAF Safe Stadium Initiative is a flagship program aimed at raising the standard of safety measures at match venues and preventing tragedies at stadia. The initiative is designed to ensure that football stadiums across Africa are safe and secure for fans, players, and officials.
During the 3-day workshop, participants were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance safety and security at match venues. The training covered various topics, including crowd management, emergency response, and stadium safety protocols.
Certificates were awarded to all participants, including sports officers from the police service, at the end of the workshop.
The training was well-attended, with football club administrators, regional football association chairpersons, and representatives from the GFA and Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) present throughout the event held between Tuesday, September 16, 2025, to Thursday, September 18, 2025.
The GFA’s partnership with CAF on this initiative demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of football fans and stakeholders in Ghana.
