The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to significantly increase investment in the education sector, with a focus on infrastructure, learning materials, and overall system improvement.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Accra, Mr. Iddrisu stated that education remains a central pillar of the reset agenda of President John Dramani Mahama.
“Education remains a key priority… Government intends to invest heavily in education, in infrastructure, and in the provision of learning resources and materials to improve the delivery of our education system,” he said.

He noted that the government is also mindful of rising unemployment among young people, particularly graduates from colleges of education and other institutions that train teachers.
In line with these efforts, the Minister announced that the Ministry of Education has secured financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance to recruit at least 7,000 teachers nationwide.
“I am happy to note and announce that the Ministry of Education has received clearance and approval… for the recruitment of teachers across the country. We will be recruiting at least 7,000 teachers,” he stated.
According to him, the recruitment process will be open, transparent, and competitive, targeting graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts.
Mr. Iddrisu added that priority will be given to applicants willing to serve in underserved and rural communities where teacher shortages remain a challenge.
The planned investments and recruitment drive are expected to strengthen the delivery of education across the country and improve access to quality learning, particularly in deprived areas.
